Review: Pixi Glow Tonic

I'm a pretty avid reader of Caroline Hiron's blog, so when I read that she was a fan of Pixi Glow Tonic, I of course went crazy and got two in London.

However, I don't know if I'm as big of a fan as I thought I would be.

Using it twice a day, like Caroline says to do, is actually not really all that great. I find, that like with the Mario Badescu Glycolic Toner, that this is too drying and can get kind of irritating. It almost over exfoliates, and my skin has been pretty dry and tight since using this regularly twice a day.

Since it doesn't have any salicylic acid, just glycolic, it doesn't help with blackheads either, so my black heads have been worse than usual lately, too.

Of course, it's not bad. It does make my skin look and feel very even, so it's great for dark spots and textural problems.

As an every other night exfoliator (very sensitive skins) or night only toner this would be great, but for 2x a day, I think it's a bit harsh for me. I would alternate this with a gentler toner that still lowers the skin's pH, not 5% glycolic like this one.

I also don't really like the packaging, but PIXI changed that, fortunately.

Don't get me wrong, this isn't a bad exfoliator by any means, especially if you're not blemish prone. It's great for exfoliation. I'll be finishing up this bottle and my second one. However, it could be too rough for the sensitive among us as 2x day toner, and it might need to be alternated with something else.

Just putting that out there since all its reviews are 5/5 and stuff.

I'd give it about a 3.5/5 because I can't use it twice a day comfortably, and it's expensive.

Since I don't have another toner to alternate with this at the moment, I've been compensating with my other products so that my skin can tolerate this. I've been using a creamy cleanser without the wash cloth, and I've been using the Pepta-bright serum from Indeed Labs which calms and rehydrates my skin.

You CAN get this in the US from the PIXI site.
