Deodorant is the one thing I absolutely hate shopping for. Here's why: The stuff I use will probably give me cancer, but I still keep buying it anyway, then feeling guilty. Yeahhh.
Usually, I go for anti-perspirants, which not only keep me smelling good, but also keep me dry. My default is definitely Dove. It works and it's moisturizing, too. I love the Cucumber and Green Tea (I've gone through probably more than seven of those), and the Plum and Sakura Blossom is to die for. Although, almost literally because of aluminum.
Because of this aluminum issue, I've been trying to find more natural alternatives.
The problem is that none of them seem to work. The best natural I've found was Lush's Aromarant, which didn't stop the sweat, but it neutralized the odor completely. Then they discontinued it. Since then, I've been using Dove again (and took a break to try a Mitchum one, which was horrible), but I've also been testing out some natural options in between to see if I can find one that actually works.
I tried the Bio Beauté by NUXE, and it worked really well for the first month. However, after that it just stopped working. I would start to smell myself around midday, no matter the weather, and it wasn't pretty for anybody. It's too bad, because it was working at first, and I loved the earthy scent. It was also clear and non-drying.
My latest natural deodorant I've been testing out is a deodorant cream I got from a market in Ronda. It's composed of cocoa butter, baking soda, tea tree oil, and other stuff, and so are most deodorant creams. It's weird to stick your fingers in your deodorant and apply it like arm pit cream, but you get used to it. What I don't like about it, aside from the application process, is that it's just basically white chunks in your arm pits. I definitely wouldn't use it to go dancing with my hands above my head like the ceiling can't hold me, but other than that, it does function pretty well, smell-wise.
So overall, the natural deodorant thing is still difficult as I haven't found one that I love as much as the Dove, but I guess it's worth it in the long run to go natural.
Now, the REAL solution to this problem would be for Lush to bring back Aromant (without the lemon peel pieces and in a push-up stick packaging). Then I could be a very happy camper.

I've had the same issues with deodorant + antiperspirant. Right now I'm back to using an aluminum-tastic one, but I'd love to find a more natural alternative. I was using "The Crystal" for a while and it actually worked for a while, but then after a couple of months it stopped. Not sure if it was due to a change in body chemistry or what... but that's another one to try if you can hunt it down.
ReplyDeleteMy issue is that the crystal ones still have aluminum in them, right? I've been alternating the natural ones with my Dove, and it makes me feel better about myself, but it would be so nice not to have to have three deodorants. haha I've been trying out my Nuxe one again for the past couple days, and since it's winter it is starting to work better...
