When I went in to choose my top nail polishes for 2013, it wasn't very difficult. Although I have spent six months with no nail polish at all because I've been studying abroad, for the first six months of this year there were a few that were almost constantly on my fingers and toes.
1. The first polish I was wearing well into 2013 was Jack the Lad by Butter London. I did a whole post on it here because I love it so much. It's a forest green with light green and teal shimmer in. Two coats is enough to give you mesmerizing nails that last for ages.
2. Deborah Lippmann's Ray of Light was probably the only thing I wore on my nails for a couple months this year. It's probably the most gorgeous nail polish I own. The dark indigo base has tons of duo chrome flecks of glitter in it. The orange to green glitter reminds me of fall leaves. The formula is also amazing, and it kind of feels like actual enamel or gel.
3. I've had Butter London Knackered for a very long time, but it's only been this year that I've discovered its layering power. If you layer it over one coat of a light lavender purple like Revlon Colorstay Provence, you get the same effect that three or four coats of this would take. Also, if you want fast galaxy nails, one coat of this over a coat of black will land you amongst the stars in a minute.
4. The whole year I had mostly one nail polish on my toes. Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear Mint Sorbet was the perfect pop of color for me this year. Just looking down at bright mint toes made my day, and since the formula is so opaque, long lasting and easy to work with, it was hard for me to choose anything else when I needed to paint the piggies in a pinch.
5. This year was also the year I discovered the Revlon Colorstay base and top coats. These are incredibly fast drying and they keep my color on for over a week. The top coat is also super shiny. Much love goes to these guys right here.
6. I also discovered the wonders of a regular nail file, not a metal one. The Deborah Lippmann file was quick to use, and my nails were way less flaky after discovering this beauty.
I think this has been a good nail year despite the six months of nothing!
What were your favorite nail products this year?
