At my work we carry a lot of interesting lines, and we get to try the products, too. One of the most unique lines, and my all time favorite skincare brand (I think you can tell where this review is going already) is Tata Harper.
Tata Harper is a completely natural brand based out of Vermont designed for all of you luxurious hippies out there that want to treat your skin while protecting your health and the environment. I have tried everything from the line (minus their three newer serums) and am happy to report that there are no duds.
Before I go into the review, I think the story behind the brand is something that makes the brand so special and needs to be discussed. Tata (who I met, and is one of the most incredible people) is Colombian. Colombians usually have the most amazing skin because they take extremely good care of it. Tata has been using anti-aging skincare since the age of sixteen. Yup.
Her step dad got cancer, though and she became super conscious of everything that she was putting in and on her body. However, the problem with the skincare industry pre-Tata Harper was that there was nothing in the natural market that was actually effective (with no hidden nasties). So you have someone who's used to top of the line skincare trying to find something completely natural that actually works. Well, she got tired of searching and just decided to make her own line.
Tata used her background in industrial engineering and set out to make a line that would be completely effective while still being nasty free. Also, she controls every single part of production, even growing the majority of the ingredients on her own farm, making her company one of the only vertically integrated skincare companies. She has a ton of awards and certifications because not only do the products kick butt, but because the company is so ethical.
Anyway, with years of research and top specialists, she banged out her line, and it has had amazing success because of her well-researched products that never skimp out on ingredients. Her products will have at least 6-29 active ingredients (her new serums have even more), whereas almost all other products you find on the market have no more than two or three.
Also, so I don't have to repeat this in the review fifty times, all of her products are free of sulphates, parabens, and anything else bad. They also smell incredible due to natural fruits and flowers. Nothing in the line smells bad.
SO without further ado, here's a review of almost every product in her line.
Refreshing Cleanser: Made for the most sensitive skin, even for people with Rosacea. I'm in love with this cleanser. It's amazing for taking off makeup, and you can use it as a five minute mask because the enzymes in it eat away at dead skin. Just massage it in and wipe off with a hot muslin cloth. It doesn't dry the skin out ever, yet it still makes it feel clean.
Regenerating Cleanser: Another miracle product, this is like the Refreshing Cleanser, however, it has small apricot particles to give the skin gentle exfoliation (you can even use it with the Clarisonic). What's amazing about it is that the particles are rounded, so they will never scratch your skin, and the enzymes (this can be used as a quick mask, too) offer great exfoliation as well. I love to use this in the morning and as my second cleanser after the Refreshing Cleanser to remove makeup. Also, if you have acne, this has salicylic acid in it (so does the Refreshing), so it keeps pores good and clear. It also will never dry out the skin.
Hydrating Floral Essence: This product is hands down incredible. It does everything that every other toner says it does (but doesn't actually do). With hyaluronic acid and amazing fruit oils, this toner completely hydrates the skin. It also has antiseptic ingredients, making it perfect for acneic skin as well. One of the best things about this product is that it is alcohol free. Other toners that are supposed to do what this one does have tons of alcohol, leaving the skin dehydrated, pumping oil, and just irritated (I'm looking at you, Caudalie Beauty Elixir). It is a great toner to prep your skin for moisturizer, but I love spritzing it on over makeup to set any powdery look or spraying it on if I'm feeling dehydrated throughout the day. Oh, and it's perfect for planes.
Rejuvenating Serum: This stuff is packed with all the good stuff. Every ingredient has a purpose, and it has immediate effects. I don't personally have wrinkles, but I like the way it completely hydrates the skin and makes it literally feel firmer within 30 seconds. My mom and dad have both used this, too in my presence (we do skincare treatments together sometimes. It's cute), and after five minutes their wrinkles were reduced. This is because the hyaluronic in it (the best quality you can find in the ingredients market, which is why her products cost that bit more) plumps up every cell, and the other plant oils relax the skin, smoothing out lines. The technology that went into the serum is incredible. Top marks.
Restorative Eye Cream: This does the same thing the serum does, however, it's specifically targeted for the thinner eye area. It's amazing, and a little goes a long way.
Repairative Moisturizer: Tata has two moisturizers. This is one for slightly drier skins, or people that want a dewier, silky look to their skin. I use this as a night cream, and it was amazing waking up to completely hydrated skin every morning. It helps to keep the skin clear, too.
Rebuilding Moisturizer: One of my favorite products in the whole line (even though every product is my favorite), this is the best moisturizer I have EVER used for oily skin. It completely balances oil production, gives a matte finish (which I like), and is amazing under makeup, but at the same time, it keeps skin incredibly hydrated. There is really nothing like this product.
Resurfacing Mask: I can't obsess about this mask anymore. If you have to take away one product from the line, take this one. This mask, when left on for thirty minutes (if you have sensitive skin, do twenty), gives you a complete facial. Skin is completely cleared of all the dead nasty stuff that has built up, pores look smaller, acne reduced, and everything just feels so soft. I leave this on in the shower, too, to let the enzymes get jump started in the heat and really work into the skin. You can also use it as a spot treatment over moisturizer at night to get rid of blemishes in a day or two. Also, if you want to give a regular cleanser a boost, add a little bit of the mask. The jar lasts an absurd amount of time, too, because the littlest bit goes a long way. Another great part: it's clear, so you don't look like a freak for half an hour. My whole family uses this stuff and loves it. My mom, dad, and I will sit down together with this stuff on then rinse off with a hot muslin cloth and do the rest of our skincare. I love, love, love this. But just in case you didn't see, I LOVE this.
Replenishing Nutrient Complex: Another must-have, this stuff feeds your skin. The minutes you pat on a couple drops, it feels like all your problems in the world (of skincare) have been solved. If you get flaky ever or get those tight patches, a drop of this sorts it out instantly. Not to mention it's great for soothing painful blemishes as well. It doesn't get greasy either, and the littlest bit goes such a long way, you'll have the product for a very long time.
Revitalizing Body Oil: Another product I've obsessed about endlessly, this stuff sinks into the skin (no greasy feeling!), completely hydrates it, and it's one of the only products I've used that actually helps with cellulite. Tata used this during all three of her pregnancies, and she reports that she is completely stretch mark free.
I've also used all three of her aromatherapy treatments, and all are amazing and effective: Stress completely relaxes me when I'm thinking 100 km/hr, Irritability literally solves all my PMS problems, and Bedtime completely clears my head so I'm not thinking about anything when I need to go to sleep. I used to think aromatherapy was gimmicky, but this is actually effective stuff.
Tata's lip treatments are all amazing, too, and they last a long time (dig out the rest of the product when you get to the end; there's still a ton in there): They all plump up the lips and hydrate them with hyaluronic acid. If you lick them throughout the day, too, it's not the end of the world, because there are no chemicals. However, the red one is the only product in her line that isn't vegan (it has carmine in it for the slight color), so look out if you are vegan. The difference in my lips when I was using this and then when I stopped (because I ran out) was drastic. When using this, I could go longer between applications because my lips were still hydrated, but without it, my lips would dry out a lot faster and flake more frequently. If your lips don't feel instantly hydrate, keep using it, because it builds up over time. My lips took about a day or two to soak up all the good ingredients and get really hydrated then stay that way.
So this was a long post, but if you're interested in the brand, I hope it was helpful. The brand is expensive, but it's quality and eco/health conscious. I absolutely cannot fault it.
Her pricing philosophy and more about the brand here.
When marked with a *, the product was given to me by the store I work at, not the actual company. I am in no way affiliated with any brand, all opinions are my own.
