My take on mineral oil

Mineral oil is a pretty controversial ingredient. I'm not a big fan, but there are some instances where I think it's tolerable.

I think mineral oil is fine in some makeup products. If you have dry skin and are searching for something that gives you glow, there are a lot of highlighters/foundations, etc. that have mineral oil in them. It sits on the skin, it doesn't absorb in, so that way you can get a certain finish from it, or it can give products a nice slip. It's also tolerable for many skin types.

When it comes to skin care, I'd prefer that it weren't in my products. However, when it comes to cleansers, mineral oil doesn't bother me. Obviously, if I'm spending a lot of money on a product, I don't want mineral oil in it, because it's just a cheap ingredient that isn't going to do anything good for me. However, in a cheap cleanser, I'm just using it to get my makeup off anyway, and then I'm rinsing it away, toning after.

That said, you can use coconut oil as a cheap makeup remover. It's still high-tolerance AND it's good for the skin.

However, I NEVER ever want to see mineral oil in things that I want to absorb into my skin. What I mean by this, is that if I'm spending the money to have a nice serum, eye cream, moisturizer, etc. because it has nice ingredients, mineral oil combined with those is just going to prevent them from absorbing into the skin in the first place.

That's mineral oil's job: to serve as a barrier.

So I search for nice products that are mineral oil free so that way those good ingredients actually absorb into the skin and do me some good.

If you see mineral oil in your products (serums and stuff), you're just throwing away your money.

And that is why I don't like mineral oil.
