Natural Deodorant Adventures (Review of Kai, Dr. Hauschka, Weleda, and Lavanila deodorant)

I'm a hypochondriac.

I'm constantly feeling around my body and thinking I have weird things in the wrong places, googling symptoms of possible diseases, freaking out reading about them on Wikipedia, and calling my mom in a panic because I might die from appendicitis. It's a thing.

So when I was reading about how deodorants (and wearing underwire bras apparently) can contribute to breast cancer, I of course got a bit touchy-feely with myself and thought I'd found a bit of lumpiness under my pits and around my boobs (obviously this is all in my head).

This is the moment I embarked on a natural deodorant adventure, trying to find a good one. It's really hard. I'm stinky, and usually I use any of the Dove GoFresh deodorants because they keep me smelling nice. However, I've decided to save my Dove deodorant for emergency situations and try out these natural options.

The last natural deodorant I used was Lush Aromarant (which was really good actually), but it was discontinued. I have tried Aromaco from Lush but it smells gross and I do hate that it doesn't come in a stick.

In the winter, I'd bought a travel version of the Lavanila Pure Vanilla Deodorant. I actually really like this one. It smells nice, feels soothing on the pits, and is still in stick form. I do think it's effective at keeping my BO at bay in the winter, but I'm looking forward to trying it out this summer to see if it works like it did in the winter. The only drawback is that it can leave white marks on my clothes. It's $14, but I got it 30% off on Dermstore.

I then wasted $13 on the Weleda Sage deodorant. Many things about this deodorant annoyed me. First of all, you have to spray it on. It wastes a lot of product and is quite faffy. Secondly, the sage smell kind of smells like BO. It's weird using a deodorant with such a fragrance that you can't tell if you're smelling your own odor or your deodorant. Also, it stings the pits a bit. Lots of alcohol. If you're trying natural deodorant I highly recommend that you DON'T try this one.

I saw the Dr. Hauschka Rose Deodorant in a rave review on Into The Gloss. I was intrigued. This one isn't bad. It's a roll on, so it is quite wet. It's hard to get used to wet pits at first, but it dries down, no stinging btw, and feels quite nice. I find it's pretty effective as well for about half of the day. I've become accustomed to bringing it with me to top up. But yeah, not the worst natural deodorant, not the best. It's $24 though, so kind of expensive. (I got it 30% off at Dermstore.com, shipped free).

Last but not least, I've been wanting to try the Kai Deodorant for a long time. I love gardenia, so I thought this would be my favorite. Although it's expensive ($24, again I got it on sale at Dermstore), it's very moisturizing, smells amazing, comes in a stick for ease, leaves no white residue (unlike the Lavanila), and doesn't sting. However, same case as the Dr. Hauschka, I have to bring it with me to touch up, and it does feel quite moist (but doesn't dry down).

Of every deodorant I've tried, I do think the Lavanila is the most effective. It's also the best price. I returned the Weleda deodorant because I hated it that much (I do like the Weleda brand though in general), and I'm on the fence about keeping the Kai and Dr. Hauschka, since they feel so moist, and I need to reapply or just use them in the winter. I just like the smells.

By the way, the lumpiness under my arms has gone away, so I'm convinced the natural deodorant switch was a necessary one.

If you have any natural deodorant recommendations for me, please leave them down below!!!
